Azure Synapse dedicated SQL pools and Serverless are both available for data warehousing in Azure Synapse Analytics, but they offer different approaches to data storage, processing, and cost.

Azure Synapse dedicated SQL pools provide a traditional data warehousing experience, where users provision a fixed amount of resources and pay for them whether they are used or not. This allows for more predictable performance and better control over the environment, but can potentially be more expensive, especially if the workload is highly variable.

With Azure Synapse Serverless you have a pay-as-you-go model where users are only charged for the resources they use. This allows for more flexibility and scalability as the system automatically scales up or down based on the workload, with a downside being it can be more difficult to predict and control performance, especially if there are sudden spikes in workload.

Microsoft Fabric is the latest offering that brings data engineering, data warehousing, data science and real time analytics into a single integrated product.

For this session we will compare these options in terms of performance, scalability, cost, and management, and discuss the pros and cons of each approach. We will also cover use cases for each option and provide best practices for choosing the right approach for your data warehousing needs. By the end of the session, you'll have a better understanding of which option is best suited for your specific use case.

You will learn:

  • To Review Azure Synapse dedicated SQL pools, Serverless SQL pools, and Microsoft Fabric, examining the pros and cons of each
  • Discuss best practices for selecting the best option for your workload what to consider when making this decision
  • Review use cases for using both dedicated SQL pools, serverless SQL pools, and Microsoft Fabric
