Microsoft hasn't made it easy to understand the .NET space in the last couple of years. We have .NET Framework, .NET Core, NET Standard, ASP.NET Core, ASP.NET, Xamarin, Mono, and UWP. Some of it is cross-platform, some of it isn't, some of it is open source, some of it isn't. Obviously, the goal hasn't been to make it complicated, but a perfect storm of new frameworks, restructuring, politics, and messaging changes has ended up with the somewhat confusing state we are in today.

The confusion will go away over time as things stabilize. Until then, it might be a good idea to have a grasp of what the .NET world looks like today. This session will get you all the information you need to understand the current state of .NET and the involved frameworks and technologies, as well as a proper walk through of what .NET Core really means from a technical point of view.

You will learn:

  • What .NET Core is
  • How .NET Core and .NET Standard relates to each other
  • About the new options and benefits offered to developers by moving to .NET Core
